Hello,

We have the latest Networker (7.3, I think) and we have several tapes that as soon as it tries to save to these specific tapes, it marks tapes full. After relabeling, removing volume (with deleting both file and media index entries)withdraw/deposit, relabel and still this same problem. The message we get is::

08/23/05 08:24:37 nsrd: media warning: rd=node_name:$2$mga3 writing: bad parameter value, at file 2 record 1
08/23/05 08:24:37 nsrd: media notice: LTO Ultrium tape 000001 on rd=node_name:$2$mga3 is full
08/23/05 08:24:37 nsrd: media notice: LTO Ultrium tape 000001 used 0 KB of 205 GB capacity
08/23/05 08:24:41 nsrd: write completion notice: Writing to volume 000001 complete

So, what I am thinking of doing is to some way write 0's and 1's on the tape via some Networker tool. Is this possible?? What could be the problem? Any info would be appreciated.

What kind of device does $2$mga3 represent? At leaste it lloks strange. - What is the OS?

NW sets a tape to full if it can not recover from a hard write error. However, as it can write the label, i guess the block size has been setup wrong. (Labels ara always written as 32kB blocks.)

NW has a test routime called tapeexercise or tapeexer, depending on the OS.

605 and Chacal,

Yes, OpenVms devices are mga, fiber attached devices.

The OS that originaly tried to write to the tapes was a Sun Solaris storage node, but it wrote a bunch of tapes full. We thought they were bad tapes, but we were able to relabel some and use on different OS, pools, etc. I am trying to use these 4 tapes, on a windows networker server, with a OpenVms storage node and pool, but no matter what we try (OS, etc) these tapes just always go 100% full right away????

According to the Compatibility Guide, only one LTO-2 drive is certified at all for OpenVMS. But this should not really be the problem.

Can you run save -vvvvv on a single file and also look at the daemon.log file whether you see some related info? Also, does the exercise program work at all?

Thanks 605. I did not know about the tapeexer tool on windows. I tried it and one of the volumes is saving right now! Thanks again.
