Hi
I was wondering if anyone has seen this problem and can help me. We have many customers that use backup exec to run full backups daily. On five of these customers we are having a similar problem. The backup tape ejects itself before the job starts. The users will put in a tape at 5.00 then go home no other work is done on the server. The user will come in in the morning and the tape will be ejected and the backup not run due to missing tape. The servers are HP ones with internal tape drives and it is version 9 and 10 of veritas. We have tried cleaning the driver and making sure the firmware and drivers are upto date but it does not work.
Thanks for your help

Sound like you media sets and overwrite protection levels are not setup correct.

Goto tools options ans set the overwrite protection level to none. Then setup the job to do an overwrite only..not append/overwrite

Thanks for the information I will try that. Would that be the problem even though this only happens intermitantly?

When they insert the tape, are they labelling it and placing it in the correct media set? If not, the tape is being ejected because it is the wrong tape.

never thought of that i will check I think they are putting in the correct tape cos they are all labled. It would be quite a coinsidence if all 5 are putting in wrong tapes though.

I can think of three possibilities:
1. The tape is bad. Try re-labeling (i.e. erasing) it and trying again. If you can't, it's dead.

2. The drive needs cleaning.

3. The write-protect is set on the tape itself. Move the write protect switch and see if it works.
