Tape Stuck Updating, Preventing Nightly Backup 1

Server Info:
Windows 2000 Server
ARCserve for Windows 9.01 with path level 5 applied
Tape Drive is a Seagate STT20000A

Device Info:

Problem:
Each night at 9:00PM there is a scheduled job to make a backup of the entire system. Each morning, when I check the system it shows that the job is still ACTIVE and the Job Status screen shows that the Tape is still "Updating..."

Activity Log: (I dont think there is much there. Most of it is just from when I finally cancelled the job that was "Updating...")

Stop and restart the tape engine. Make sure that the tape id comes up and the drive does not say updating. Do this before the backup kicks off. Check it in the morning after the backup and see if it worked or not.

I have some autoloaders that on occassion will just stick on the updating... I stop/restart they will then finish updating and my next backup job will run.

Also make sure the tape device is disabled in the Windows Device manager see faq which driver should I use for details.

I was able to unplug the IDE CD-Rom drive from the tape backup chain and then executed the ARCserve updates that were suggested. I also disabled the Windows driver for the tape drive.

Now the program runs without a hitch. Well, except for a few files that arent backed-up due to being in use....but that is yet another item to tackle.
