Hello,

I have a Compaq server that has a 20/40 GB DAT drive. Currently the tape is jamned in the drive. Can't eject. Have removed drive from server. Taken cover off and don't know how tro remove tape. Anyone got any ideas? Any manuals about?

Drive is EOD006 part no. 158856-01

usually when you power the drive completely off and then power it on again you should be able to eject a stuck tape..

I can't advise you to open the drive and try to remove the tape... For when you succeed and you place the drive back in the server using it again you are definately gonna get problems....

just my idea....

is the server under 3 years old
assume so with a 20/40

compaq will replace it within 24hours free off charge
they will even send a guy to fit it

just give tham a call

but dont tell them you took it apart

I have had this problem before, and one of my solutions is to stop all ofthe backup services and restart them. If that does not work I remove the drive and connect it to an AT power supply that I have in my office and eject the media then. I have had only one tape not come out doing this, in that case I open the tape drive removed the tape and called Compaq for a new one.

Try holding the eject button down for 10 seconds this will usally make the tape come out also.

I have had this happen a couple of times with the tapes becoming stuck because of label placement. You may want to "gently" remove the tape with a pair of tweezers (emphasis on gently).

Tape drive is no longer in use. Too small now. Thread is TOO old. Thanks for help
