Hi all,
How to know that the tape on the server AIX 5.3 is mounted or not?

Regards

What do you mean by mounted?

To check the status you can:

mt -f /dev/rmt0 status

All I ask of you
Is make my wildest dreams come true

And how to know the name of the tape. In the directory /mnt, it's just show cdrom.

Regards

Usually. they will be /dev/rmt0, /dev/rmt0.1 etc (see the man page for rmt for more variations). Not sure what you mean about cdrom?

All I ask of you
Is make my wildest dreams come true

When i run mt -f /dev/rmt0 there was a message

lsattr: 0514-519 The following device was not found in the customized
device configuration database:
rmt0

Could u explain this message?

For the cdrom i think that the tape directory is iny /mnt

Regards

What does:

lsdev -C | grep -i tape

show you?

All I ask of you
Is make my wildest dreams come true

There was no output for the 2 commands
lsdev -C | grep -i tape
lsdev -Cc tape

Regards

It looks like you don't have a tape drive on the system. Is it an LPAR'd server? If so, is the tape drive assigned?

Hi,

My problem is like this, I'm new on UNIX and someone was installed the server but not me. So, what should i to know that the server use LPAR'd?
I see that there was a tape drive on my server? Is it not configured yet? My problem with this tape was, i want to run Oracle RMAN backup on tape but i receive the following error message :

RMAN-03009:failure backup command on ch00 channel
ORA-27028:skgfqre: sbtbackup tape return error

Regards

tovohery,

Why don't you try this better:

lsdev -C | grep rmt

sometimes the tape description is misleading. So searching by rmt is more accurate.

I believe the directory /mnt is just a mount point for cdrom. It will not show the tape listed in there!

Khalid
