I first noticed this problem happening when I installed XP SP2 when I was using the Backup Manager from my PC to remotely control the Backup server doing device activity. But then it would also occur when I logged into the server using Terminal Services. And then finally last night it seemed to happen without anyone logging into or connecting to the backup server.
I get the "Tape Engine service terminated unexpectedly" error in the System Event Log. There are no other errors in the log.
I am using Brightstor Arcserve Backup v9.0 patch 5 (build 2050) on a Windows 2000 server that is fully updated with windows updates and also Arcserve is at the latest patches. The server is only running Arcserve and is connected via Adaptec 2944s to a Spectra Logic 10K Library.
It has been running like this for over 1 year without having this problem. The changes have been Windows updates on the server and my PC (including XP SP2) and fully updating Arcserve .. the latest of which was patch 5.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Dan
