Hi there,

Is anyone aware of software which can access Tapes as well as other storage media? I have come accross many appplications that can access anything from floppy disks through SCSI to flash removable media. But so far I have been unable to find anything that can access backup tapes.

Any info appreciated.
Regards,

Michael

That is because it will depend on what software wrote to the tape? Every vendor has their own format and way of recovery. For example, Veritas NetBackup uses tar32 but IBM Tivoli Storage Manager uses a proprietary format which is impossible to recover from unless you have the actual database files at another location to allow the tape to be put together.

comtec17,

Thanks for your reply. Well, I am aware of the fact that different vendors use different formats (CA BrightStor in our case). What interests me is how the commercial recovery companies manage to get the data out of those tapes.... As far as I'm concern, CA does not provide any means of recovering their tapes.
I'm sure there must be some tools that can access data, probably in raw format, on the LTO tapes....

Anyway, thanks again...

Michael
