Situation:

Vista Business PC

WinXP SP2 Pro (Printserver)

Printer HP 5650

Standard HP driver from HP site, standard sharing

Standard install of printer, using vista's add printer wizard. Printer works, but, takes like 5 minutes just to open, then, even longer to print something. XP to XP works fine.

Ideas?

HP states there is no download needed for the HP 5650.

What if you uninstall the driver and re-install it, use an Administrator user to install, and if the printer driver setup program allows it try using the Run As Administrator option too, sort of a double (elevated) Administrative option.

Anything here?

You could also try HP Support for help.

The funny thing is, I went on their chat site for support, and was talking to them, I tried some options I found on there website (bypass spooler, print processor, etc) and I tried posting a link to their KB and it killed the chat session. It now prints faster, but since no spooler, it locks my pc while it prints, faster, but not the way God intended printers to be!

I had a similar problem, I fixed it by creating a local TCP port for the printer using the printers IP number and all worked fine after that.

I "resolved" the issue by installing it locally via usb cable, and resharing it, and adjusting the clients. Good times, but nothing worked and it was driving me crazy. Thanks for the tips tho, learned a couple things that I did not know!
