When I connect to the T2000 admin port using Hyperterm on a PC it tells me that the root password is invalid, but the root password works fine when I establish a telnet session.

Is there a difference between logging in on the console under Solaris 10 and logging in through telnet? If so how to I reestablish my ability to login through the console?

Are there any strange characters in the root password that may be interpreted differently because of character set settings, etc.? If so, try changing it to a simpler one perhaps.

The usual problem is the reverse, that you can log in to the console but not via telnet, and that's controlled by the CONSOLE=setting in /etc/default/login. May be worth checking that in case...

Any clues in the system logs? May be worth enabling auth.debug in syslog.conf and sending the output to a file somewhere to see why it's preventing the login.
