Just a quick question...

If I am going to have an T1 going out to the internet connecting to a 2651XM router, would I need a WIC-1DSU-T1 card, or another type of interface...like an ethernet one?

Thanks.

Ok...I also have been looking at some documentation, and I am guessing that I would have to use the "service-module t1..." commands to configure it right? Also, I can have an IP on that interface, versus creating a sub-interface and applying one there, can't I?

Thanks

You have to use the service module commands to set the following.

T1 CLOCK SOURCE LINE
T1 TIME SLOTS 1-24 SPEED 64
T1 FRAMING ESF
T1 LINECODE B8ZS

Your settings may differ. Please check with your service provider.

SHOW SERVICE-MODULE will let you know if you have configured these correctly.

SHOW INTERFACE should no errors or problems if you have configured the line correctly.

The answer to your question on IP addressing is, 'it depends'. You do not need to use sub-interfaces if you are using the serial interface for a point to point link. You can specify the IP address on the interface itself. Sub-interfaces are usually used on frame-relay links.

Right on! Thanks alot. FYI..just gave you a "star" or whatever the ranking is for a helpful post.

Thanks!

You can also use cisco configmaker and have it do all the commands for you. I have 2 T-1's and one is frame-relay, the only command I have to re-issue on a reset is the timeslots one.
