Not really sure if this is the forum I should be posting in, so if you know where I should be please let me know.

I am an ameteur at T1 networking. Here is my setup currently.

I have two networks. One being a public with static IP's the second being private using DHCP on a IIS system. That computer has two NIC's one has the gateway of the router, the other had the gateway of the first NIC. The private network is able to hit my UNIX box which is on the public network that has a static IP.

Here is my problem. When I go to hook up the T1 it seems to be different as I can't just unplug the DSL and plug in the T1. I am a bit clueless on anything I am supposed to be changing. My ideal setup would be that the Private (192 octet) would be able to use an ip on the public network to access the internet etc. At this time my private network cannont browse the internet, but can hit the computers on the public network.

Running Windows 2K on my server box. Thanks in advance.

You should probably try the leased lines forum.

I don't know what are you saying abiout T1. As I see there is a design issue there.
Looks like your network is like:
{IntLAN}--[W2kRouter]--{ExLan}---[RouterExt]==T1=={Internet}
\-[UNIX]
Isn't it?
If the W2kRouter is doing it's job, of course that you will be able to have communication from {IntLAN} to [UNIX] box.
But accessing the internet... that's a different story.
What possibilities could be?
1. proxy
2. NAT
Have you configured one of these? and How?

Gia,

Yes that is basically the way the network is setup. I have very limited knowledge in setting up the proxy's or NAT's. I set it up using the MS Prof Windows 2K Admin Guide which made it work for what we had to do, but Internet access from the Intra net to the extra net does not work.

Pretty Novice in TCoM.

Are the addresses from {ExtLAN} public ones (given to you by the ISP)?

Qamgine,
On your win2k server have you changed the gateway ip addy from the DSL ip to your t1 routers ip addy. You will need to change it in your network properties and in your dhcp settings if you use dhcp for your workstations.

Gia,

Yes. Here is how the Nics are setup.

Nic1:
IP Add: from ISP (Static)
Ip Subnet: From ISP
Gateway: DSL Router

Nic2:
Ip Add: 192.168.1.1
Ip Subnet: 255.255.255.0
Gateway: Nic1 Ip Add

I have a pool from 192.168.1.2 to .254 for DHCP when they log on to the domain. They are able to hit my unix box which has a static public ip from the ISP.

Ok, now is much clear. So, your [W2kRouter] is having a NIC connected to the Internet (having public IP).
Then:
1. Proxy
Install a proxy server on that machine, and configure the client browsers o use that proxy. Wat proxy? You can try a freeware one like Jana (search on google for Jana firewall).
2. NAT. That's much better than proxy. What OS you have on [W2kRouter]?
- if it is Win2kProf then you hae to use ICS (Internet connection sharing). Just go to the public interface from that server and / properties/ sharing. Then, set all your internal clients to DHCP. Don't forget in this case your DHCP server will be the one provided by ICS (you cannot use another one)
- if you have Win2kServer, then is better. You can have whatever DHCP want, and you have just to configure your server to use NAT. You will find this in the RRAS mmc.

But, ICS is quick. NAT require planning. And, you have also to clear define your name structure (DNSes).

Qamigine,
Could your private network browse the internet when you were using DSL?

Gia,

THANKS! Will try that. Mucho Thanko!!

wbg34, no. I am trying to figure it out still. I haven't even gone live with the T1 yet.
