T-1 Card Co-Existing with E-1 Card

Given: T-1 is 24 time-slots using Mu-Law companding at a line rate of 1.544 Mb/s, and E-1 is 32 time slots using A-law companding at a line rate of 2.048 Mb/s.

Question: Can a T-1 card (part # NT5D12AB) co-exist with an E-1 card (part # NT5D12AB) on a Meridian Option 61c system?

The simple answer is no asbthey use 2 different buses. the only switch i know that will support both T1 & E1 is the siemens EWSD which was specially developed by siemens for the US army in europe.

i have heard of a system (81 c) that has both, i would check with nortel before i said no. this was at a air base, the tech that worked that site said nortel had to ship new os software to load but it was working. i haven't found any place it was documented. i do know the old rolm switch was coded for both, not that that is any help

Absolutely yes

i have a 61c in Ireland that has 4 E1 cards and 1 T1 card

you have to ensure you have all the necessary software packages but you can absolutely have both types of cards and circuits in an Option PBX

yeah i was unsure if it would work when my company sent me to ireland to set it up, but we needed a PRI between teh cisco and nortel and they had no documented way to connect an E1 between teh 2 systems, but I knew how to make a T1 PRI work between the 2 PBX's and get name and extension to pass.

SO i went out there blind and after some unnecessary worrying about clocking and other Euro/North America difference issues, it worked fine

More Information: The U.S. Defense Dept. ooperates both Siemens EWSD (current SVR 19D) and Nortel SL-100 (SVR MSL-17) switches that allow for co-existance of T-1 and E-1 DTI cards.

Another source reported that Meridian cards could be mixed on a Nortel option 81c, then referenced it as version MMCS (This must be the software version). I guess I known enough to now check with Nortel.

SL-100.

Mix breed between DMS and Meridian....For large applications....Like mixing a beagle with a wolf. Still get some of the beagle features with some wolf muscle.

is the SL-1 the same as the SL-100? I did my first training on an SL-1/ISLX

no the 100 is a central office switch, normal in a city of 100K. different cards and commands, some (very new) cards fit either.. was originally an analog station side switch. the sl1 was originally a digital station only side switch. analog stations were added pre-release as an afterthought

I just decommissioned an old SL1 ST a few weeks ago and replced it with an option11. Those things are still out there and kicking.

we still maintain a few, people still complain when they have problems with a 15+ year old computor, 80086 cpu pushing a blazing 25 meg.. and 128k ram, wish i had that one at the house...

you can put e1's and t1' in the same 61c of 81c. I have done it no problem. Just program them each properly.
