Hi,

I have 2 Windows 2000 servers acting as DCs, recently I upgraded the disks on one of them (cloned to new disks) which went smoothly.

I have noticed that the sysvol folder is empty on both servers ! Even though when I create a user they seem to replicate to AD on both machines - how is this possible. There aren't any errors in the Event viewer either !

I don't have a backup of the sysvol, how can I restore it?

thanks
Matt

The SYSVOL is a folder located by default in the windows directory of your server (c:\winnt\sysvol) and is built up with NT Junction points (they are like shortcuts to other folders within itself). The sysvol share contains your group policy objects and your netlogon share that holds your login scripts. This folder is also "shared" between domain controllers so any changes that are made on one DC will be replicated to another.

I assume if you go to \\dc\sysvol this folder is empty? Andalso that if you go to \\dc\netlogon this doesnt work?

If you have a backup of the c:\winnt directory you could try and restore the SYSVOL folder; I would first double-check and make sure that it is really empty - could be an option like hide protected operating system files is turned on in your windows explorer?
