I am using win98SE with a system with sound integrated into the motherboard. The sound has disappeared intermittently and the windows volume control has disappeared permanantly from the systray. The volume control can be started as a programme from the start menu but cannot be placed in the systray. I have reinstalled 98SE but the problem has not resolved.Any ideas on how to get back to normal? Thanks

-Goto Control Panels
-Goto Sounds and Multimedia
-Click the checkbox that says "Show Volume Control on the Taskbar" then hit apply then hit ok, and the little yellow speaker will be back in the system tray.

If your sound card isn't working:
-Goto the desktop,
-right click on My Computer,
-goto properties
-Click on Device Manager Tab
-Double click the word Sound, Video, and Game Controller
-Click on your sound card
-Click remove
-Re-start
-Add new hardware wizard should pop up and tell you to install the drivers for your sound card, or just that the sound card is being installed. You may need to specify where the sound drivers are.

Then you're done.

Hope this helps you out!

"-Goto Control Panels

If you do get the volume control back, right-click it and somewhere will be the option to bring up the sliders on the individual channels (I have six on mine) Check the sliders aren't down and the 'mute' box isn't ticked. My suggestions are what I would try myself. If incorrect, I welcome corrections to my rather limited knowledge. Andy.

have u found a fix for ur problem yet?? Did u make sure that u did the firs step spyderix told ya to do thats what I think is ur problem

Hey I want in on this,, I had the same problem once and tried everything that anyone could think of with no results. "think I finally got PO-ed and reinstalled" anyway if it was to happen again I think I would try system file checker. start>run>type in sfc and let it do it's thing and see what if anything it comes up with. What you think Josh?

I guess that couldnt hurt to do that. If there was anything wrong with ur sound card driver or card u could see what if anything is wrong by going to control panel-system-device manager and it should say if everything is a-ok and if u have a ! or ? by ur card then u have a prob

Did u get anywhere with ur prob Bill(Chad?) lets hear it

my volume and sound cannot clik and play.so if i want to play any song from realplayer, the songs cannot play.
thank u

We are running windows 98 on a Compaq Presario (So-Sorry-O)7478 and have only the Compaq software to refer with. The Sound Volume is no longer displayed, nor is there any volume control left, other than a shortcut, which cannot locate the volume control.
What can we do?
