Don't know whether this should be happening but when I check in the windows task manager processes I constantly see this

Image Name of System
User name of SYSTEM

using up-to 99% of my CPU (even the system idle is not getting a look in)
This is causing major lock ups and hangs on all other programs as they cannot get enough CPU time, I will not claim to be an expert in this field but this seems rather strange to me.
I did try to end the "System" but my PC went into shut down mode with a Sasser type warning screen.
If I am posting in the wrong place please let me know but any and all help appreciated and desperately needed.

AMD Sempron 3000+

Also I would download and run this antivirus. Its called ewido. Run it in safe mode. Also run adaware and spybot if you have them. Also download the patch I have listed.

Also once you have done all this, download hijackthis from the link below. Extract to desktop or prefered folder and choose do a system scan and save a logfile. Post the logfile on here.

Okay, done all the above abd ran a secific Sasser removal tool, the System SYSTEM is still running but not using as much CPU or memory as before, even in safe mode it was there but hardly using any at all.
Here is my Hi Jack this log, thanks for your help so far

Check and fix this item. Other than that your log looks clean.

F2 - REG:system.ini: UserInit=userinit.exe,xpjava.exe

After you remove this restart and let me know how your system runs.

I think I have found the culprit!!!
I had an AMACOM DVDR/W external drive attached and as soon as I disconnected no more system!!!!
hurrah......

A start though just for the pointer to ewido, it's pretty dam good

Glad you found it and thanks for the star. Yeah ewido is good I love it. However still every now and then check behind it using housecall or something. No antivirus alone catches everything although in my opinion ewido is the best around. However everyone has an opinion lol. Anyways nice to know you got your problem fixed. Also the drive shouldnt have been using that much resource so you might want to visit there site and see if there are any other reports on that happening or contact them and see if they have an idea of why it might be doing that.

Another good one I just came across was system mechanic, PC is now back up to full optimal operating speed!
Again thanks
