System Toolbar Locations Not Being Saved 1

I know this should be simple to fix, but for some reason my system toolbar locations are not being saved. The proper toolbars show up when I restart, but they revert to their default location. I deleted my resource file and started over, but that didn't fix the problem.

Seems to be. SYS(2005) yields C:\DOCUMENTS AND SETTINGS\ADMIN\APPLICATION DATA\MICROSOFT\VISUAL FOXPRO9\FOXUSER. Just noticed my VFP 6.0 is doing the same thing. This just started a few days ago. Any ideas what I should look at?

Is there any possibility that your resource files have become read-only?

Nope, just checked them again. I can add and remove the toolbars, but they always appear stacked along the left side of my screen. I re-position them side by side at the top of the screen and they will remian there until I restart Fox.

Are other system windows, like the command window and data session window, behaving themselves? In other words, if you move the command window, go out of VFP and come in again, is the command window still in its new position?

If it is, it suggests there's nothing wrong with the resource file, and the problem lies elsewhere.

By the way, when Tamar asked about SET RESOURCE, you said you thought it was ON because you got a valid response from SYS(2005). In fact, SYS(2005) will give you the same response regardless of SET RESOURCE. A better test would be SET("Resource").

Sorry Mike, I rarely turn it off and got side tracked thinking my resource file was trashed. I used the SYS(2005) command to see what resource file Fox was using to find out if it was pointing to the correct file. Yes, SET("Resource") yields "ON". The command window stays in the new position relative to the system toolbars. By that I mean the horizontal position remains the same but the vertical position is moved down the screen by the amount of increased space the system toolbars take up once they are stacked at the top left side of the screen instead of being side by side of each other at the top of the screen where I normally place them. This isn't a big deal, but makes me think something more serious is lurking about.

I think I have found it. I had the same problem exactly as you describe it. On VFP start all toolbars line up one below the other on the left. This frustrated me no end and there was no solution in this post, the only post I found. Bu help is at hand.

I think this is due a combination of the Graphics driver, wide screen monitor, and dual monitors which is my setup.

Try this and see:

1. DELETE your Resource file
2. Start VFP and SET RESOURCE ON
3. Confirm using ?SET("Resource") should print ON

4. This is the thing that worked for me:
Click the button to the left of the Close (X) button so that the VFP IDE is NOT MAXIMISED. Remember VFP IDE should NOT be maximised. You can resize the IDE to cover the whole screen but DO NOT Maximize the IDE.
5. Add your toolbars and set them in whatever position you want.
6. Quit VFP by clicking the Red "X"
7. Restart VFP and your toolbars should all be in the correct place.
8. You can now Maximize the IDE.

When you restart it should all be normal.

Thank You, Thank You, Thank You! I had just about given up on this problem and was considering a re-install. I only have a single 19" lcd monitor and this solution worked perfectly. Hopefully this will help others with the same problem.
