I'm having trouble restoring my system which is "blue screening". I don't know which software was responsible, and I'm happy to go back to very early states. However, when I go into safe mode and use System Resore it is prompting me saying "Cannot locate Drive D:.", all the files restore back OK for C:, but the D: partition seems to have disappeared! When I try to run the "rescue disc", it gets as fat as tools.exe and then says bad command or file name cannot locate drive (D: presumably).

Where's D: gone? Can I just re-partition the disc?
Thanks for any help!

Have you run any disk utilities to see if the drive has failed?
Sounds like your drive may be dodgy....
You can check within fdisk to see if your partition is still intact and recognized by the system.

I have had this problem it can be that the disk has gone out. To test undate the driver for that partition if it is on the same disk as C: you know it is not the disk. The next thing is to check for is a VIRUS some of the worms act like this visit you virus software home page and check.
Have you load anything? The restore has some limits on what it will restore. If this is a large disk you may have to reinstall the software and before you format see if you can update it. My problem was solved when I went back into(after reloading it) EZ-BIOS and made it look at the disk again.

Thanks very much for these tips. Problem's not solved yet, but I have something to go on!

Good luck...and you are quite welcome! Kimber
