When I set System Restore to restore my system to a saved restore point it goes through the motions but does not restore nor do I get any confirmation screen. I get this prolem fairly frequently and thus far my only solution has been to switch System Restore 'off and on' but in doing so I lose all my restore points. what causes this and is there a solution.

The "confirmation" screen should appear after an automatic reboot after System Restore has attempted to do its thing.

Is your machine rebooting?
System Restore Service. Make sure it is set to Automatic and started in your services.

To try fixing the problem. Run the System File Checker program from the Run Box by typing.....Sfc /Scannow in it and have your XP CD handy.

You could try repairing windows itself by running it over itself. You will lose all your windows updates but your files will be untouched.
