System Event Log not showing events

For some reason, my system event log is empty and it should have events in it. Is there a way to create a system event that will show up. Can the event logs get corrupted? How can the event log be initialized?

Are you sure that you don't have any filters set? (check the view menu from within event viewer).

Also search for *.EVT files (should be 1 for each event located in the WINNT folder)

Also make sure that the EVENT LOG service is running
