I am creating a sysprep image of windows 2000 professional SP4 with Sysprep v1.1, I am cloning using Ghost. I am trying to get the image to work with different IDE controllers. When I start the pc with the image windows loads the first black screen with white bars at the bottom and then freezes before going to the next screen.

Does anyone know why it could be freezing before going to the next screen?

Cheers,

Dom

Because you're working with different IDE controllers!

Seem to remember their is a complicated method of being able to make a variety of drivers available for sysprepped image - so it can cope with different chipsets, controllers etc (but may have been for XP) - but can't remember where. I just do a repair reinstall in these cases.

If I recall correctly you can switch to the generic or standard IDE controller, reboot, and then run sysprep. In the past I used this along with the -pnp switch to enumerate all of the hardware. It adds about 5-10 minutes per clone, but it has worked for me.

I fixed it, the problem was with the HAL, I changed the HAL using device manager and everything is working great. I will make two images, one with a ACPI HAL and Standard HAL.

Thanks for all the help,

Dom

Dom - care to explain how you changed the HAL in device manager - sounds like something I might find useful in future.

Thanks
