Switching Lotus Notes to work for another user on same computer

Can you have 2 seperate users use Lotus Notes on the same computer, but with different emails. Can this be done? I have read the Lotus Notes book (6.0 - 6.5.1) and following it's directions, it still does not work. It keeps the previous person's username and mail. Does anyone know how this can be done, if it can?

What about if a person leaves and a new employee gets their old computer. How do you switch users. Meaning user's name and email? Thanks,

I have two case in my firm (lotus 6.51)

1) on old computer running under NT4 (the mutli-user installation isn't compatible)
We juste give a other user.id on the lotus-session-windows
and the user has access to his mailbox. But he works on the lotus-desktop from the other user. But he's only allowed to open his own bases.

2) With win 2000 and the multi user installation.

the Lotus administrator have set " Profils - itinérant" (i don't know the engish given name)
for the user wich often change computer.
So a part of the parameters are saved on the serveur, another in the "Document & settings " directory".
And they can easiely change computer

ah yes !

In my school, lotus (6.4)
the lotus directory is in a mapped user-drive. And it is woring too. But i don't know more.

Although I wrote the following procedure in 1999, it should work for you, possibly with minor modifications:

This is the procedure for Setting Up Multiple Users on a Single PC. Modified from the instructions offered in the Lotus Help Desk Support for Notes manual.

1. Install Notes client software with the program files in their normal location (i.e. c:\notes) but designate each user's data directory below the c:\notes\data directory (i.e. c:\notes\data\user1data, c:\notes\data\user2data, and so on).

2. Use Windows Explorer, find and move the NOTES.INI file to the new user's data directory.

3. Using Windows Explorer, find the NOTES.EXE file and create a Shortcut.

4. Drag the shortcut to your Windows desktop and rename it with the user's name (i.e. User1 NOTES).

5. With the shortcut icon selected, choose File, Properties.

6. In the Start in: field, enter the path of the directory created for the user (i.e. c:\notes\data\user1data).

7. Start Notes and setup the workstation for the first user.

8. Repeat steps 1 to 7 reinstalling Notes for each user. This will install the software again, designating a different data directory for each user (i.e.. c:\notes\data\user2data).

The key points to remember when setting up multiple users are:

Move the NOTES.INI file into the new user's data directory.
Indicate the user's data directory in the shortcut's properties.

If you follow these instructions, each user will have his or her own distinct desktop (DESKTOP.DSK) and user preferences (NOTES.INI)

I have a different method than the other posting, but it works.
1) As you already know, NT, Win2K and WinXP creates it's own profiles. I would skip NT 4.0.
2) If you use ND 6.x, you have the option to setup a single user setup or a multiple user setup/profiles.
3) If you're trying to open a new mail using the same logged in user, all you need to do is go to [File] [Security] [Switch ID] and add the user by browsing through the server the user created in, onto the workspace. Change the [mail\user2] file under the [File] [Mobile] [Edit Current location] to the new user [mail\user2]. Changing this mail file allows the user to forward emails.
