Hi all,

first of all I have my internet connection on my 1st hub. Then I have another hub and a switch! the switch is this one: When I try to connect one or more computers to this switch I can't find the network anymore! So I can't login and can't surf on the internet. On this switch there are also a few other hubs. From those hubs I connect to several other computers. On those computers I can login into the network. So I can't login into my network when I connect a computer straight to the switch. I have already searched a long time but couldn't find an answer. I hope some of you can (excuse me for my bad English...)

thanks in advance!

why do you have so many hubs, port density?

Connect the switch to the internet (not a hub) connect the hubs to the switch (directly) and the PC's to the Hubs.

Make sure you have all the Hubs (and internet connection in the same VLAN (if your switch supports VLANs).

diagram:

+------+ HUB | {PC's}

Hope this helps..

I understand what you mean. But I didn't construct the network. I have to add a few computers and there is no money to buy a new hub! I cannot change the switch and the hub because the network may not go 'down'. so I have to find something for the switch so that I can connect computers and hubs to it!

Are the PC's getting link lights when they connect to the switch? are the PC's connecing at the correct speed for the switch?

the link lights are flashing. Also on the uplinkport the light is flashing.

what do you mean with 'are the pc's connecting at the correct speed for the switch?'. Where or how can I found this out?

is it a 10/100 switch and connecting to a 100m NIC at 10m this would cause some problems.. Although usually if there connecting at the wrong speed, you won't get link lights, and duplex errors shouldn't prevent network access, just cause slow connections...

duplex will most certainly stop communication. CSMA/CD is turned of with full duplex. Not to mention the use of different pairs on the PHY
