Hey guys,
Just want to know if you think there are any issues with this setup:

Room 1: Gig Switch with 2 other connected directly to it.

Room 2: Gig Switch with 4 other sitches directly connected ot it

Room 1 & 2 are connected by a connection between the two 2 gig switches.

There isn't a problem connecting the 4 switches into 1 gig switch in room 2 right? Do don't have to take them and daisy chain them down do you?

Thanks!

No best that they all have their own connection to the Gig Switches otherwise if you lost one in the diasy chain you would lose anything connected below them.

Ok good, its weird because I am loosing dhcp traffic from room 1 to room 2 somehow and just double checking that this is fine. Although if your a wireless client connected to an access point from room 2 you can get dhcp just fine. It makes absolutly no sense

so you are not able to pick up DHCP in room 1?

if the answer is yes: What can you see if you statically assign a pc in room 1 and then try an ping your default gateway? then a server or a device on your network.

I get dhcp fine from any of the switches in room 1.

I cannot receieve DHCP from room 2. There are wireless access points connected to the switches in room 2 as well and when using a laptop I can get DHCP fine through the wireless. Its when I plug into a switch hard wired I get nothing.

These 2 gig switches that I am refering to are the catalyst 500 express models.

Thanks for any more info!

Also from your previous question. If I assisgn a static IP to a computer I can ping and communicate with everything fine.

THanks

post some config as I have never used the 500 switches.

Is it a flat layer2 LAN between the 2 rooms? Or is there some routing going on?

if some switches are in pvst tree spanning mode and some are in rapid pvst mode could that create issues?

thanks

Found the problem, these new express series have dhcp snooping turned on. For whatever reason it found the dhcp broadcast to be untrusted. So turned that off and everything is flowing fine now.

Thanks for all the help!
