I will be upgrading a system and doing some major line changes to an 0x32. I would like to pull the current working cart out and put the new one in on a weekend setup the system with the new lines and test it. But when I'm done I want to drop the old cart back in and let them work as they are used to, while I wait for number porting to finish up.
The old cart is Version 3 and the new is Version 6 and has a removable ROM. Also the system is just using CI lines and no other expansion cards.
Is this a bad idea? I just want to get the new line hunt groups programmed now before the line porting is finished.
Thanks

It's bad. All Norstar products default when downgraded. Must have been a command decision when they started the product line. Firstly, your gonna lose all data when you pull the R3 and install the 6.0. You can backup your 6.0 database and reinstall.

Theoretically, you can back up the R3 and reinstall, but I've never done it. If CI lines only, no need to discuss keycode issues.

I was afraid of that, thanks for your help. I just wanted to have the new programming ready when the number porting was done so it was a seamless change over. I guess I'll just have to do some quick programming changes when that happens.
Thanks.

I used to throw up my own 0X32 and their new software and sit there and match all porgramming with 2 sets.

When all is done I would cut over in minutes and keep their 0X32 and do the same over again at another site.

And don't forget that if your system has PRI you need to take it on up to 6.1 or higher with a rls 2 NVRAM pack! See the extensive history in this forum on this known issue for more details.

True. If you're using PRI and 6.1MR, make sure you have the latest release of that. (there were 3) Or take them to 7.x.

This is completely possible, but sounds like a bunch of extra work.

First, backup the Norstar at the current release, 3.0.
Make sure you place the backup in a folder named 3.0.
Use the Upgrade Kit to upgrade to 6.0.
Make your configuration changes as needed.
Perform another backup at 6.0, putting the file in a folder named 6.0.
Unplug the Norstar for a few minutes and plug it back in.
Do a Feature**STARTUP. When the set display reads "Applying Template", pull the power on the Norstar.
Pop your 3.0 software back into the KSU and apply power.
The system will come back online at 3.0.
Restore from your 3.0 backup.

You'll need to run the upgrade tool again to get back to 6.0, then you can restore from your 6.0 backup.

Wow, I was happy with a simple no.

{curlycord} I don't have a spare 0x32, I just used that at my place to replace my 8x24 and test this new setup.

{Phonehed,RikRodgers} This is just loop lines, no PRI. I've already had to deal with that nightmare on other installs.

{SupportDude}I plan on bringing a fastRAD and doing some backups prior to any changes. I don't plan on doing an official upgrade because I'll be changing the way the lines are handled and I'll be starting from scratch. Your plan sounds possible, but it sounds like that was assuming I'd be keeping the programming. The idea is more of doing the setup weeks in advanced and just doing a card swap when the numbers are ported. At this point it looks like I'll be banging out the install right at that point.

Thanks all.
