In 8i we were able to start and stop the instance in DOS mode by going into svrmgrl and connecting internal. I treid the same by setting the environment to a 9i database and home but got 'tns protocol error'.

I know we can do this now in sqlplus but how do you connect with internal in the sqlplus window.

Thanks in advance for any clue.

If I'm not mistaken, you can't. I believe internal has gone away in 9i.

I've been using sqlplus from the command line. I would expect you can also do it from a worksheet.

You DO have to connect AS SYSDBA:
CONNECT sys/change_on_install@mydb AS SYSDBA
