Hello,

There's an SV8100 at one of our customer sites which keeps locking up/freezing every couple of weeks or so. Their handsets all show "Initialise" when this happens. I can still ping the system on the network but I can't get into it with PCPro or WebPro. They have to reboot the system via the power switches when this happens (sometimes it takes a long time to shut down, other times it doesn't seem to shut down at all and they eventually need to pull the power cables out) and that seems to resolve the problem temporarily until it happens again.

I've looked in the alarms and it seems to be constantly generating a log for "SIP Ex License ERR". The system does not have any SIP extensions but they do have 4 SIP trunks, and I can see from Feature Activation that they have 4 "IP Trunk" licenses in place. I have tried updating the system to the latest firmware and it still does the same thing. I will try to attach a screenshot of the errors, if I can figure out how to.

Any ideas, please?

Thanks!

Take a backup and then default the system then reload the backup. I had one recently where the error was obviously in a memory area that was backed up by the on board battery and this fixed it for me.

Ok thanks OzzieGeorge, it's a remote premises so at some point I'll look at getting an engineer to visit and do a system default and re-upload of the database like you suggested. In the past, however, I have run into trouble when uploading a full database to an SV8100 or SV9100 such as the ports being assigned incorrectly or in the wrong order, or cards missing etc. I really need to get a system for myself at home for testing/training purposes.

Thanks!

I had a similar problem with 2 of my SV8100 sites. I configured them to be on a vlan and the problem went away.

Thanks Jackcmann, I'll keep that in mind. A couple of days ago I took a full download from the system, then uploaded a fresh blank database (with the exception of the IP address etc so I could still access it remotely) to wipe out all the config, then re-uploaded my backup to put everything back in place - or at least that's what I thought would happen. Unfortunately there were certain things that didn't "take" when I uploaded the database, including some of the VOIP resource addresses etc, so the customer ended up with no speech on calls in either direction. I manually entered those settings and they still didn't take, they went back to default again, and only on the 3rd attempt did it finally stick. I've run into trouble with uploading databases to these systems in the past, and have learned not to trust it, and to expect problems every time. I should have known better really.

Woah, never once had a problem loading a backup except once in my ignorance I didn't realise that you had to disconnect from the system before reloading it as the Database writes to permanent memory on disconnection! Question is, how has it been since the reload

OzzieGeorge, I don't want to jinx it but it actually seems to have been ok since I reloaded it and made the manual changes I had to make. Only time will tell. Sometimes it was crashing several times a day, other times it was ok for several weeks before the problem returned, so it's a bit too early to tell yet, but I'm hopeful! Thanks.

OzzieGeorge, Hi, the hotel where this system is installed have started having trouble again although it sounds a little bit different this time, they aren't getting the Initialize message stuck on the handset displays, they just describe that handsets as "dead and we can't dial anything". The system is still constantly logging the "SIP Ex License Err" error message. I can only guess that's what it sounds like, something wrong with the licenses for SIP extensions, however this particular system does not have any SIP extensions on it. Only SIP trunks. Do you reckon it might help if I download the license file again from NEC and re-upload that to the system, maybe? Could there be something wrong with that? I don't know if the crashing and the error messages are even related.

Cheers,

Dave
