Hi,
I am trying to setup SUS. There is no AD or a domain. I am working in a workgroup. I have the SUS server setup and ready to go with the patches. I have read the docs and enter the register keys in my local PC's. I have tried to go to the server on the http address of. is that the correct address to use for the clients.

Cheers

Ok so I have the address right. But what should the page look like it always get direct to the autoupdate admin page which I can't see where I scan for updates etc.. what have I got wrong

?
The clients don't really get any choice about what updates they get. As long as you have authorised it on the admin page they will get the update.

The client will check for updates at a random interval but you can switch it off then on and it should then check for updates within 10 minutes or so.

I am confused.

I was expecting the clients to get a web page like you get when you go to windows update. I thought I approved the files so that the clients could then select which files they wanted to install.
So do they get a web page or is it behind the scences and they are updated in the background. when do they get updated and how can I tell they have been updated. is there a list on the admin web page that keeps track of when a machine has been updated.
thanks for the help by the way

Russ

No... the whole idea is the clients get the updates silently!

There is a list on SUS admin but it is hard to interpret. I've seen a couple of 3rd party reporting tools but can't remember names.

However lengoo is correct.
The Windows Update client will simply check every so often to see if there are new authorised files to install. They do not get the choice of which ones. To do particular fixes for particular machines or users you would need SMS.
