I have been at my present position for 3 months +, just came off 90 probation. The tech who was here before me is leaving for greener pastures. Out of no where comes a better opportunity for much more money and better benefits. Which now a days is nothing to sneeze at. Better hours, only the PBX to handle.
Where as now its the PBX, the cellphones, the pagers, the printers,the nextels...and still im expected to shoot at least 5 trouble tickets a day. When my predecessor couldnt even do that. What would you guys do ?

I would look at the companies, and then decide which is a better fit for you and what you want to do. Go old school, get out a sheet of paper and do the pro's and con's and the make your decision!

The american dream has taken a beating recently it seems. Money yes..but that feeling of doing better , if you work hard enough ...its just not the truth every where. This place being unfortunately one of them

100% agree - take the new job, with better pay.

The only question I have for you is; do you want the additional experience with the other techs/cell phones etc.

But take the new job, you can always read a book

I would look at the longevity above the cash myself. i would rather take a job that I feel would be there for a few years rather than the quick buck for a 1 year temp job. Not sure what your contracts are but in todays economy I want stability. Just my .02

There both perm positions. The hospital is where i am now. The other position is a law firm.Both are solid in that they dont lay off. The hospital has not layed off in 8 years and even then this department only lost Secretaries.

I'm retiring in a couple of years. I have saved and saved. I'm secure, but only because I have saved. That's the key word. If you spend all the money you make, you'll never retire. Yeah, take vacations and enjoy them, but always save your money. Don't get greedy! Make your job fun. If you love your job, you'll never work a day in your life. I did, and I didn't. Take the money, save the difference, and you'll be okay.

In my experience law firm = RED FLAG.

You say they don't lay off. How familiar are you with this firm?

I'm in the Washington DC area, and when I was running the streets, I had a lot of law firms as customers, and they were the biggest PITA of anyone.

Lawyers, especially in big firms, tend to be prima donnas, who do not want to hear any excuses for any type of outage. Most use account codes to bill calls, and if anything happens to those records, there is hell to pay.

I remember a couple of different firms I used to visit a couple times a month, and it seemed like for a while, there was a new customer contact every month, because something had gone wrong, and the phone guy was let go.
