We have Windows 2000 Pro and NT Workstation 4 clients in a retail environment. Every time someone prints, the windows messenger service box appears on every client to confirm that the printout was successful. This can be very annoying for both user and customer.

Is there a way of suppressing just the print confirmation windows? I don't want to have to stop the messenger service on all the PC's because we do use if for other purposes.

All our printers are shared through NT 4 Server.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Outonalimb,

You can disable the print messages through the registry. Sorry, but I don't remember if you do this only at the
server or per workstation.

Registry Settings
System Key: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Print\Providers]
Value Name: NetPopup
Data Type: REG_DWORD (DWORD Value)
Value Data: (0 = disabled, 1 = enabled)

Create a new DWORD value, or modify the existing value, named "NetPopup" and set it to equal "0" to disable notification or "1" to enable it.

Restart the printer spooler service or restart Windows for the change to take effect.

Will give this a go. Many thanks for your input on this matter.
