Not sure if the thread heading is accurate but here goes..

using CR 8.5

have rows of data which include an unique ID, date and also a time field (amongst others).

I've grouped the records by date and expect to see the time and other fields listed in the details section for each unique id (1 per row). So far so simple. However, what I need is to split the details section into 2 columns - A.M. and P.M. - so it takes each row, determines the time and allocates it to the left or right column as appropriate - again so far pretty simple, I've done by adding an additional detail section with the values to the right and then suppressing each section depending on the time - problem is it staggers the results like so:

AM PM
--- ---
record 1 am
record 2 pm
record 3 pm
record 4 am

whereas I need,

AM PM
--- ---
record 1 am record 2 pm
record 4 am record 3 pm

no wasted lines at all!

any ideas?

regards
Les

I think you would need to use two subreports to do this, one limited to times in the AM, on to times in the PM. In the main report, insert a group on date and link the subreports to the main report on the date field as well. Place the subreports in the date group footer and suppress the detail sections.

I'm not sure as I have not CR just right now on my computer but in CR9

Make 2 formulas who separate the am and pm records

@am
@pm

Then in the detail section use the splitting option in 2 columns and give the formulas as selection for the 2 columns
