On a daily basis I need to support some crystal reports in 8.0 version and others in 8.5. Is there a way to maintain both versions with one PC? I suppose I could try to load both Crystal 8.0 and 8.5 on my hard drive. I expect that there may be problems with that. Any ideas?

You can modify an 8.5 report with V8 and vice versa. There is no difference in the RPT, as far as I know, except that 8.5 has a few more features. Of course, if you use the 8.5 features in a report, you can only run it successfully in 8.5.

As I said, I need to support both 8.5 and 8.0 files. Modifying 8.5 with 8.0 will change that file to 8.0. This is a problem. Additionally since 8.0 cannot run 8.5 files, this presents a problem. Consider that I have two distinct systems that I support... one uses 8.0, and must not have 8.5 files. The other is an 8.5 based system. We are going through this to assure (test) that the files work in 8.5. We would not want to undo these by converting to 8.0.

The question remains... is there a way to load both 8.5 and 8.0 on one development system? I guess the answer is no... worth a try

I don't think you understood me. You CAN use 8.5 to modify 8.0, and then run it under 8.0.

You can even support version 7.0 files, by saving in 7.0 format. But the format is the same for 8 and 8.5, just the available functions are different.

So, as long as you don't introduce any new 8.5 functions into formulas for a report intended for 8.0, then the report can be modified in 8.5 and run under 8.0.
