Hi, I am sorry of this is a dumb question, but I am trying to find out the exact Solaris version I am running.

If I type uname -a I get the following:

SunOS prbm2.uk.igw 5.8 Generic_108528-29 sun4u sparc SUNW,Sun-Fire-280R

I know this equates to Solaris 8, but I need to know exactly level eg Sun Solaris 8.0.0 or Sun Solaris 8.0.0 _x86. Does anyone know how? I have searched high and low and can't find out.

Cheers

Joanne

As the response say sparc and Sun-Fire-280R it isn't the x86 version.

If it doesn't leak oil it must be empty!!

Thanks for the prompt reply. I am new to Solaris, am from an AIX background where we would type oslevel -r which would give me the exact OS Level and maintaintence level.

My wonderful company do not deem it fit to send me on any training for Solaris so I am self-taught and not much at that.

Would you mind telling me how you gave me the answer or point to a useful website/documentation, as the uname -a output means very little to me.

Thanks in advance

Joanne

Solaris uses man pages for system documentation. To find out info on a command, just type man uname, or man date, etc. In most cases you can get enough info. If not, there is always Google.(-:

Joanne, I recommend if you are familiar to a UNIX and just need some commands/info from another one...

Thanks daFranze for this post, the website is just what I needed. I have passed round to my colleagues and we are all very impressed.

Cheers

daFranze,
Wow! That's a great web site. It is what I am looking for long time. Actually I make a list for myself, but I am not a UNIX guru, so my list is missing alot comparing to this site.

thanks for the info. You get a star!

huuuh, thanks a lot... :)
