I hv a Sunfire V245 which will go down almost every other day. Everytime it went down, I hv to manually console in to power it up again. Is there anyway I can find out why it went down? Any specific logs or procedure to get more info on why it went down? Thanks...

the best is to have the console open so you can capture the output at the time of the crash or reboot If you do not have a console, leave the laptop hooked up to it with hyperterminal active. There is no better logs than these.
I'm sure the v245 has some type of LOM, it can probably be set up to capture the output, just a guess though.
Is there a core dump in /var/crash/<hostname> for the date and time of the crash. check /var/adm/messages*, you can run explorer.
Does prtdiag -v show any faults?
All of the above can be sent to Sun if you have a contract, if not, see what you can find.
If you are using metadevice, do a: metastat <enter> and see if you have any metadevices in "needs maintenance" state.
I hope any of these can help you.

What version of Solaris? On version 8 and prior, by default, the powerd would shut down an idle system by default. Not ideal for a server!

I'm pretty sure they changed the defaults on later versions.
Just check for a running process called powerd. There's a configuration file (power.conf?) for it somewhere in /etc; I don't have a Solaris system nearby to check.

Solaris 10 does not have it enabled by default. You will have an /etc/power.conf
it should look like:
# Auto-Shutdown Idle(min) Start/Finish(hh:mm) Behavior
autoshutdown 30 9:00 9:00 noshutdown

I would be surprise though if you had it set to shutdown. I believe it was more of an issue with Solaris 6/7/8.

Maybe the default is to shutdown? Perhaps try setting it to noshutdown.
