Hello to everybody i have a simple question i hope someone can help?

Can i use a option 11c cab as a media gateway, as i have a customer who has 3 sites with option 11's & now wants ip sets for a small office but doesnt want to replace one of his systems with a proper succession

Remember if it doesn't work hit it harder

Yes, you just order a upgrade to cs1000M Cabinet (old Opt11c). Then you receive a VGMC and a SigServer and that makes an IP Switch of your good old Option11.

thanks for that, i just have to ask a quick question what is a vgmc & whats the topology of the overall switch, as i know the succession is:

sig server
call server
media gateway

The long name is Voice Gateway Media Card. This card is always needed in an nortel IP switch, to convert TDM into IP packets an vice versa.

The SigServer is the Leading IP component but cannot convert IP to TDM and TDM to IP.

CallServer is the CORE or CPU if you want from the Meridian PBX.

The Media Gateway was known as IPE shelf and hosts the vgmc card as this is an IPE card (1 slot if smc hw, two slot if "old" pentium hw).
