SubFolders and Files Not Inheriting Permissions

The subfolders are not inheriting permissions.

C:\Users\JohnS (Domain Admins - FC & JohnS - FC)
C:\Users\JohnS\Folder1 (Domain Admins - FC & JohnS - FC) Allow Inherited
C:\Users\JohnS\Folder1\Folder1.1 (Domain Admins - FC) Allow Inherited.

Even though Folder1.1 is allowing inherited it doesn't inherit the "Users" (JohnS) Permissions. However, the Owner of Folder1.1 is JohnS but the permissions do not show under the Security Tab.

I have even navigated to C:\Users\JohnS\Folder1 and Forced a Propigating to the folders but still nothing.


Any ideas?

Are you setting inheritance on the top-level folder? What do the advanced permissions read? Sounds like permissions may have been changed after the folder/file was created. Can you add, and apply FC to, user on the inaccessible folder? If not, can you add said user in the context of administrator?

If still no luck, take ownership of the directory. Copy current config. Set inheritance and apply.

I am setting the permissions at the C:\Users\JohnS directory. All directories under it at inheriting permissions.

Yes I can manually add the user to each folder, but I want all the folder to be the same and inherit what C:\Users\JohnS has.

The advanced properties on C:\Users\JohnS show Domain Admins - FC and JohnS - FC

The advanced properties on C:\Users\JohnS\Folder1\Folder1.1 show Domain Admin - FC. ABSOLUTLY no refernce to JohnS.

On all objects under C:\Users\JohnS I have taken ownership of and still nothing. I have tried to change permissions from a 2003 Server over the network (UNC) with the same effect.

On Advanced Security, you need to check "Replace entries on all child objects with entries shown here...". If you are prompted, choose to COPY current settings. Ensure that John has full control to all folders/files/subdirectories. Apply these settings, and you should be all good.

I have already done that.

I have navigated to C:\Users\JohnS and gone to the Security Tab ~ Advanced Button and checked the ""Replace entries on all child objects with..." and all the files have changed. What is weird about it is that it only puts the Domain Admins in the Secutiry tab and doesn't put JohnS under.

It is very interesting. I've never seen anything like it before.
