Is there a limit on number of subfolders? I have 780 under one folder currently and it's working fine. I haven't seen any mention of folder limitations in NTFS (checked Google and MS KB).

I remember having an issue years ago that involved number of subfolders but can't remember any details (like OS, or 3rd party software...)

Anyone know if there is a real-world limitation?

Thanks!!

If they are all subfolders in one folder but not subsubfolder, subsubsubfolder, subsubsubsubfolder, etc., it should work okay. The problem of too many subfolders under subfolders is the length of the path, used to be a limit on number of characters in a path.

Folder
  Subfolder
  Subfolder
  Subfolder, etc., is okay

Folder
  Subfolder
    Subsubfolder
Subsubfolder, etc., path can get too long.

ah-ha! Good point! I think that was the issue last time -- too long a name.

Thanks for your help!

With filename, try to keep the complete path statement to under 250 characters.

I think Bluejacket has the right idea here, although there can be issues with folder complexity, the length of the complete path statement is likely excessive and the cause of the issue.
