A friends PC will not post past verifying DMI pool
he says it won't even boot from a floppy either.
he has tried clearing the cmos
The only time I have has this was a duff hard drive.

This is all I found on a google.
Corrupt boot files on the computer.
Settings for hard disk drive are not correct.
Boot devices not set properly.
BIOS corrupt or misc. setting not set properly.
Connections loose or disconnected.
duff Hard disk drive or other hardware

any other suggestions anyone.?

Could you start using the Last Known Good configuration, or do you not even get that far?

difficult this one because I have so little info to go on too. Apparently it doesnt get any further than v dmi pool which is I think just after memory check?

go into the bios and set it to boot from the harddrive only...if it still gets stuck disconnect the harddrive and set it to boot with a floppy and see what happens

if an add-on has failed eg. sound card, tv card, network card etc. this will happen.

if some extra kit has been added and the problem has started it will be due to a conflicct in hardware.

you need to strip out the excess and start it up a pice at a time to make sure it is not a hardware problem first.

all the best.
