I have Windows XP Home and it locked up on me. After a reboot I come up with nothing, if I press a monitor button (i.e. Brightness, Contrast) I get a message "In Power Save Mode Press any key on keyboard or move mouse" Neither of these works to bring up the system. I've tried booting in safe mode or the setup menu, but all I get is a blank screen. I only see the "In Power..." message when I touch the monitor buttons. I've tried different monitor and keyboard, same thing, so it's neither of those. It has to be the operating system. Any ideas how I got stuck in power save and how to get out?
Thank you, Camper

Sounds like your video card might have went out. Check to ensure that its still firmly in place. If you have another video card laying around try it. Or try the video card in another computer and see if it works. If that does not work strip your computer down to bare essentials and just add one part at a time untill it does it again.

Thanks electronicsfreak, I'll check it out.

1.) do you see the BIOS Message when you power on?
if yes, goto 2.)

do you hear the HDD heads move after the switch on?
if yes, then do check the GFX-CARD...
IF no... then check your PSU...

2.) Similar happened to a friend of mine... He put his PC into Sleep Mode and forgot about it, turned off the power, and could not get back in... Solution: Power Down, open her up, and CLEAR THE CMOS...

BBB, thanks. I do not have a BIOS on boot,and the HDD doesn't make any movement. What do you mean by PSU? Thanks!

PSU = Power Supply Unit....

replace with a KNOWN GOOD one for testing...
