hey guys - does exchange 5.5 have the ability to strip attachments at the server level before they get sent to the user? thanks.

You can find a script that copies attachments to local or mapped folder here:
It is triggered on the exchange server, but it marks processes e-mail as read.

In your AV solution on your Exchange server, add in a custom one for *.* - that would remove all.

I'd HIGHLY recommend looking at a 3rd party solution for this, antigen by sybari is excellant for exactly this purpose.

I have seen this when the clients use Outllok 2000 or later, it had something to do with the secuity settings and the need to create a security group within exchange. Wish I had more information. Its been a few years since I ran into it.

or leave them alone and have Outlook hide them using level1remove...
