Hi All

I am after some hardware testing software that works from the command prompt so I can evaluate hardware and check for problems before windows boots.

Does anybody know of any downloads that are avaiable.

Thanks

Well, there is memtest86 that you can get which will create a boot floppy and run a memtest on all memory registers until you hit ESC to stop it. Some people will even use it to 'burn in' a new computer when they get it because it keeps a pretty consistent CPU load as well as testing all memory registers.

As for stress testing all hardware components, I never really looked for one, though I would think that there is something out there.

Cheers!

When you say "burn in" what is that.

Here is a quote from a website that pretty much sums up what it is meant:

"The concept is to run the same tests over and over to heat up (burn-in) the electronic and mechanical components and try to force the system to fail in the shop rather than risking premature failure (sometimes called "infant mortality" or "dead on arrival") in the customer's location. As a result of thorough burn-in testing, you increase overall customer satisfaction while you reduce product returns and warranty repairs that only cause you to lose profits and give you a bad reputation."

Personally I think if you have a game like Unreal or Unreal Tournament that does a continuous 'Fly By' is a good one because you test the CPU, motherboard, hard drive, memory, video and sound all in one. If it's running 24 hour later things are probably fine.

But that's just my 2 cents...

Cheers!
