I notice that I have folders in my C:\ drive of the form :-

"All User.WINDOWS" and "Default User.WINDOWS"

Is it normal to have a Folder with the name split with a period in this way in XP?

It is not unusual.
They are likely backups made by an installation program.

It could also be caused by a backup bringing files back during a Windows reinstall. It's a second user with the same name as an existing user.

Answering linney's questions:-

No I don't think I've ever run a repair installation.

No there are no All Users and Default User duplicated without the .windows extension

Hi,
In some cases, the . separates the user name from the authentication method:
I have

Username.AD
and
Username

for instance, but I do not have a Username.WINDOWS
