Strange Video Problem

I'm running a four year old Micron that has always performed perfectly. It's a machine that is almost always on. Last night I was away from the computer for about an hour, and when I returned the image on the screen was strangely muddy and streaky. Blacks had become grayed out. It looked almost the way the Windows screen does after you click on shut down or restart.

I don't know if this is a hardware problem or a software setting. I know it's not the monitor because I tried it on another box and it worked perfectly. Rebooting and cold booting have done nothing. Anyone have a suggestion before I take the machine apart looking for bad ram or a video card gone amok?

Thanks,

Brode

If you determined it is not the monitor than it probably is the video card. It could be as simple as taking it out and cleaning the connections on the card and in the slot. But, it probably is dying.

Yep, it was the card. The plus side of having to replace it is that I got double the ram for half the price of the old card.

Good computer things do come to those who wait.

Thanks,
