We have recently been through a process of making sure all our W2K Pro PCs have the latest Critical patches, etc. from Microsoft and have noticed on some PCs, after the patches have been downloaded and installed, that the Paper sizes on some installed network printers have been reset to very strange sizes, such as 'Executive(JIS)' and 'Double postcard(JIS)', '8K' and '16K' and that the usual A4, A3 etc. have been removed from the list.
On most PCs we have had to remove the printer from the PC's printer folder, restart the Printer spooler service, re-add the printer and the standard paper sizes would re-appear. But one PC does not conform (there's always one), and I have tried logging on as Administrator, removing the printer, restarting the service, re-adding the printer - all sorts of permutations of this and nothing works.
The printer is on a print server and is published in the W2K Directory so all settings should come from the server but something is overriding it somewhere.
Any ideas anyone?

Do you have any XP machines? If so, download the Windows2003 Server resource kit and use the cleanspl.exe utility on the Win2k print server.
cleanspl will work on Win2000 pro and server (actually the spooler components are the same on both). The tool does not replace any files, it just resets the registry.
