strange files

While looking around for suspicious looking services and the like I noticed that my Norton's Proted Recycle Bin is full of Index.map and Objects.map files which have been deleted out of the folder /system32/Wbem/Repository/Fs. any idea why these would be there and constantly growing in quantity ?

These files are ligitimate files and are part of the Windows Management Interface. That being said, malware could be making use of these file.

You should follow the advice in "What are Good Virus/Spyware?Update/Firewall Practices?" faq779-5240

This will make sure that there is nothing untoward on your system.
