Strange DNS errors... 1

Hello All,

Let me say first that any help with this issue is much appreciated. We've been having approximately 15-20 DNS errors in the event log every day for the last 6 weeks or so. The error is as follows:

The First: Event ID 7063 The DNS server is configured to forward to a
non-recursive DNS server at xx.xxx.xx.xx

There are at least 20 different ip addresses listed in various 7063 errors in the event log. I checked the forward tab and none of the addresses in these error messages are there. I thought for a moment that maybe these were the ip addresses of the root hint servers, but I was wrong as only one of the 20 appears in the root hint list. On top of this, we have a trust to another domain which is experiencing the exact same issues on it's DNS server... I don't understand what is happening and I'm worried that some of the other issues we've been having are related to these errors... We never had even one instance of this type of error on either DNS server until approximately 6 weeks ago, and I don't know what could have changed then to cause this problem...

Any ideas?

Thanks,

JBG

Check and see if this helps.

Check your other logs because something somewhere had to change. These things don't typically go screwy on there own, unless it's hardware. Good luck.

Thanks for the reply Glen! We changed one of our forwarders last Friday and so far all is well. I agree that things "usually" don't go bonkers for no reason at all, but I couldn't find a thing in the event logs that would give me a hint as to why this happened...

Thank you,

Jay
