Hi Everyone,

I have 3 questions. I know I can block Spam from a particular sender, or block all the senders from a certain domain, using Message Filting in Exchange 5.5. I got a list of individual address from the Junk senders list and Adult senders list but the domains all seem to be different.

1. Do I have to put them individually or can I import them some how?
2. Also does anyone have a list of Spam domains that I can put in, in addition to the address I already have?
3. Where is the folder called "Turf" suppose to be in MS Exchange 5.5, where all of the filtered e-mails are suppose to go. I did a search for it and it didn't find it.

ANY help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Paul

Can you add Wildcards(*) to addresses to help block them from?

to block entire domains just prefix with the @ sign. So, to stop all mail from hotmail, you'd enter @hotmail.com
You can use the wildcard, but it doesn't cover as much ground...so to speak...

Ya, but a wildcard would stop mike123@hotmail.com from changing his address to mike124@hotmail.com. If I stop all mail from some of the big e-mail accounts such as Yahoo or hotmail, it might stop something important. Correct?

Absolutely, but mike123 could also change his name to bill456, so how do you stop that without blocking an entire domain? (That's a rhetorical question...)You don't, with Exchange alone, unfortunately. You'll need to look at some third party tools like Mailsweeper...(that's just an example, I am not promoting that tool...)

I spoke with corporate IT and they are using Network Assoc.'s WebShield which I have. How do you feel about it?

PS Thanks for all of the help!

Hmmm...I feel that if you're able to get it for nuthin' it's certainly worth a shot, right? :) Aside from that, I have no experience with the product, but I'm sure that someone out there has used it....Anyone want to cut in?

hey, I'm following you on the email spam blocking of addresses. I've copied the list in text format. When I cut and past it into the filtering area of exchange 5.5 do I need it to display as @domain.com or can I just list it as domain.com. The list just has them without the '@'. The second part is can I drop that file somewhere in exchange rather than cutting and pasting each single domain to block. This can take sometime, I'm looking for the short and sweat here. More than likely it will be the long road I'm sure. Any help would be great. Thanks in advance.

You need the @ symbol before the domain name. You should be able to cut and paste the entire list from a text file right into the filtering option...
