Hi,
I have to stop 4 services (to install a kind of Oracle software): RasMan, RpcSc, TapiSrv, TermService, but 'sc stop' brings no result. How can I do it?
Piotr

I've tried services.msc at the beginning
- without results. For example: for RpcSc service
all the gui buttons (used to start and stop services) are disabled...

Are you logged in as an Administrator?

If it doesn't leak oil it must be empty!!

Yes, of course, I'm logged in as an Administrator.

OK, do you mean RPCsc or RPCss?

Don't believe you can stop RpcSs as so many other system services are dependant on it.

I can't seem to find a RPCsc on my system. Are you sure you don't mean RPCss?
RPCss is pretty vital. It cannot be stopped by normal means. If you really want to see what happens, kill it from Task Manager. It's one of the svchosts. It'll tell you it's going to reboot in 60 seconds. You can cencel this with shutdown -a, but thing should start to go haywire pretty quickly. This service really should be running all the time.

Using Safe Mode will stop most services and may be a compromise to allow installing your software.

If you must stop the essential RPC service, try it while in Safe Mode.
