My stereo speakers produce the same sound from both sides (When doing the "Test Speaker" test in the MSI Sound Program thing which produces sound from only the left speaker, both speakers play the sound at the same time). They are set to "Desktop Stereo Speakers". Any way to fix this?

First, try a set of headphones to see if it is a computer problem or a speaker/wiring short problem.

my guess is that, though the drivers were installed, the control applet for your sound device were not. newer sound devices come with control applets that will allow you to customize their settings. mine is a soundmax integrated digital audio 3.0 and has a control applet that came with its driver. i suggest you re-install the driver then the control applet. what's your pc's tech info anyway? maybe the problem lies beyond sound issues.

hope this helps. peace! [peace]

It's an AC97 On-Board Device....and the control program is installed (it was from the MSI CD and has been updated regularly using MSI's Auto-Updater. It's just called "AC97 Audio Configuration". In there, my Audio Jacks are set to "2-Channel Configuration for Stereo Speaker Output". There are no additional settings for Stereo Output (e.g. no Mono/Stereo switch).

I just tried headphones, and they work fine (I tested a song which I know has parts that only come out of L or R, and it did), so it must be a speaker problem.... what could it be?

like micker said, your speaker wiring, the jack particularly, is probably shorted. i suggest you change the jack. but basic electronics should come into play.

hope this helps. peace! [epace]

most likely mono plug
- next the Mixer config
- next try Start > Run DXDIAG
go through those tests

Well I tried teh DirectX Tests, and when it played the Stereo and Mono Sounds, they sounded identical as predicted. I guess the plug is damaged. Will replace! Thanks guys.
