I just finished (supposedly) putting a Barebone together. Hovewer, and sadly to say, but the comp doesn't boot, and all I hear is the fan turn on. I mean, there must be some configurations for the board to start perhaps. I just purchased an ASUS A7A266 at some convention, and I took it for granted to just put a computer together by just plugin in wires. Tell me, when you put a computer together, and in the end, are there some jumper settings or anything that you need to configure on your board? It may sound stupid, but I just wish that computers could just be build with automatic recognition from all the parts? This is my knowledge, when you turn on the computer, there are a series of steps that all computers go by. BIOS, floppy, CD Device, then Hard Drive, or whatever. I'm a quick learner, and does anybody have any suggestions to making this computer up and running?

Hi.
First I suggest you read your motherboard manual.
There probably are jumpers, but I don't know that particular mb. If you don't have a manual go to the Asus website and dowload one. Don Swayser

Hi

Could be many things too...for example all your pci cards are not in all the way...no enough power on your power supply what kinda of power supply are using...remember to use at least a 300 watt one for athlons...also check out the jumper...i can help if you provided the speed your cpu is at..i can go to asus and take a look.

Here is a link.

htin11,

I have an ASUS A7A266 MB, and we bought the CPU (combo) at 1.2ghz. We do have a 300 Watt PS. Yes, put it this way, I have not changed anything on the motherboard and took it for granted on "plug'n'play." This is what I have. The Motherboard, 30 Gig HD, 3.5 FD, 12x DVD Rom, ATI Radeon AGP, 256 DDR Ram, and the CPU at T-Bird at 1.2ghz.

does the mobo support ddr ram. i am under the impression that you have to have a ddr specific mobo, like the new ones supplied by 'I-WILL'

hope this helps

Yes, the mobo supports DDR, and that's one of the reasons why we bought it. However, the mobo does not support SDRAM and DDR simultaneously which is sort of the downfall for this mobo. Nonetheless, the DDR is in there. However, I'm not sure if the mobo auto-recognizes the DDR, which I might need to jump something.

Hi there i have had this problem. what i would check is when you power up does your hard drive power up, does your cd rom light come on and recieve power. I am assuming that you have a cpu fan? also the plug in from the power supply to the board is that a block shape or do you have to seperate flat plugs. The reason is that the block plugin only fits one way. the flat plugs on the other hand need to go black to black which means that the black wires on both plugs need to be facing each other. if these things are correctly plugged in and the devices are receiving power recieveing power there is a good possibility that your mother board is no good.

Check your IDE cables, this sounds like a problem I had when one wasn't pluged in properly
