If I have two PIII processors.. One that is Stepping 1 and one that is Stepping 4 which one should be in the first slot on my dell poweredge?? and will it make a difference??

thanks

For best performance and stability, the stepping (better yet, the batch code if possible) of the CPUs in multi processor systems should be identical.

I've been told that, but everytime I call Dell to try and get them to swap it they say its compatible and don't need to be swapped. Should I just keep calling back until they swap it. The problem is its been in my server for over a year now, but I just wonder if it could run better than it currently does...

In that case, I direct you to another good idea: if it aint broke, don't fix it.
